(PRESS RELEASE) – The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) is once again in for high praise.

The organisation recently captured the Community Benefit Award in the 2017 Caribbean Sustainable Tourism Awards Programme hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).

The Awards are aimed at identifying and showcasing Sustainable Tourism Good Practices in the Caribbean. It recognizes organizations, groups, companies and individuals in any CTO member Country involved in executing initiatives within six award categories: Caribbean Excellence in Sustainable Tourism, Destination Stewardship, Sustainable Accommodation, Community Benefit, Heritage Protection and Biodiversity Conservation.

The Ministry of Tourism, Information and Broadcasting requested that the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation, (SRDF) considered submitting a nomination for the Community Benefit Award.

In doing so, the organisation was shortlisted among 22 finalists, from a total of 96 entries.

Said Chairman, Nigel George, “We are grateful and honoured for this award and see it as a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire staff.”

This award follows on the heels of the 2017 10 Best Reader’s Choice Travel Awards (Best Caribbean Attraction).

Mr. George is optimistic that this is a stepping stone for many other accolades.

“We do hope that this culture and excellence will be sustained over the years as we continue to encourage our staff to provide the highest levels of service quality.”

The SRDF has made community based tourism development its primary focus. The practice of responsible management of the patrimony of the nation has been showcased through the Sulphur Springs Park and the Gros Piton Nature Trail. This makes it possible to award scholarships through the annual scholarship/bursary program to students in the community, provide financial assistance to the schools and clubs and fund career guidance symposiums, sporting and cultural events.

The Soufriere Foundation is a not for profit organisation located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, economic, cultural and other sustainable developments in the Soufriere region. The organization which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Center, Soufriere jetties and 88.5 Soufriere FM.
