The project was conceptualized ten years ago, when the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation, together with the hotel sector recognized that the exponential growth in tourism arrivals would require the need for recreational attractions within the area. It was then decided that the enhancement of the underutilized Hummingbird Beach would be the most suitable for such purposes.
With generous assistance from the Taiwanese government, development plans were drawn up and the commencement of the project thereafter. However, this was short-lived as the project abruptly stopped in 2011. Construction began in earnest during the latter part of 2017 with the primary goal of a speedy completion. The facility became fully operational on the 28 March 2019.
The facility comprises of a bar; including a smoothie station and salad bar, restaurant, two gifts and souvenir shops; a spa, a pizzeria and a snackette. With the economic viability of Soufriere being central to its conceptualization, the facility will employ one (1) administrator, two (2) janitors, seven (7) wardens; including one (1) beach ranger, two (2) lifeguards, two (2) hostesses and one (1) maintenance person. Also, eleven local entrepreneurs have been gifted with the privilege of conducting business within the park.
